  1. The Cybercrime Law: Federal Law No. 5 of 2012 on Combating Cybercrimes, as amended, defines cyber crimes and provides for penalties for those who commit such crimes. It also allows authorities to monitor online activities and access data stored on users’ servers or computers.
  2. The Press and Publication Law: Federal Law No. 15 of 1980 on Press and Publication, as amended, establishes rules for the publication of online content, including social media. It prohibits the dissemination of any content considered offensive to religion, morals, or public order. Violators may be prosecuted and face fines and imprisonment.
  3. Telecommunications Regulation: The UAE has also established strict telecommunications regulations, which allow authorities to monitor online communications and block access to certain websites deemed harmful or contrary to laws and regulations.
  4. Online surveillance: UAE authorities also use online surveillance to detect and prevent terrorist and criminal activities, as well as to ensure national security. This surveillance may include accessing user data, monitoring social networks, and monitoring online activity.

Regarding online censorship, the United Arab Emirates blocks access to certain websites, such as those containing information deemed harmful to national security, religion, or morals.
